Annette Lorraine Groenewold, a 92-year-old resident of Lansing, IL, passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, in her home. Annette was born in Chicago, IL, on September 2, 1930, to Simon and Cora (Tanis) Dekker.
She graduated from Pullman Technical High School in 1949. She married Henry Groenewold on September 28, 1951, and they enjoyed 40 years of marriage. Annette was employed for many years by Dekker Electric. She also worked at the Lansing Journal. Annette will be deeply missed by her two sons, Earl (Doreen) of Highland, Indiana, and Wayne of Lansing, Illinois; her daughter Diane (Mitchell) Bright of Hobart, Indiana; her six grandchildren, Joseph (Lori) Groenewold, Daniel (Amanda) Groenewold, Philip Groenewold, Allison (Michael) Urbanczyk, Michelle (Darris) Harrell, and Seth Bright; and her eleven great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Faith, Hope, Jack, Paige, Bailey, Evy, Graham, Dane, Aiden, and Emerson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Cora; her husband, Henry; her sisters Elaine VanderSchilden and Lois Lamphere; her brother Harry Dekker; and her son-in-law Mitchell Bright.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 29, at her church, Oak Glen United Reformed Church, 2244 Indiana Avenue, Lansing, Illinois, with Rev. Ed Marcusse officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM prior to the service in the church. A private burial will be at Chapel Hill Gardens South in Oak Lawn, Illinois. Annette was loved by many, and she will be truly missed. Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care and arrangements of Annette.
