Journal Java Journeys: Itinerancy in action

LANSING, Ill. (June 17, 2023) – Pastors in the United Methodist Church are considered “itinerant,” meaning they commit to go and serve wherever their bishops send them. Pastor Dave Price, who served at First United Methodist Church in Lansing for seven years, recently found out he has been reassigned to a church in Glen Ellyn. On Wednesday he took the time to spend a day with the pastor who has been assigned to Lansing in his place, G Morris Jarkloh, who was most recently serving in Evanston.

Pastor Jarkloh’s introduction to Lansing included a stop at Gayety’s, where he received a print copy of The Lansing Journal and also signed up for the Daily News email.

Though July is the typical month for starting a new assignment in the Methodist denomination, pastors are usually notified already in February. Both Pastor Dave and Pastor G just found out this month and will begin their new appointments July 1. They explained that their bishop is also new to his position and may still be getting up to speed on regional reassignments.

Welcome to Lansing

No matter what kind of transition you’re going through, a stop at Gayety’s (3306 Ridge Road, Lansing) for Journal Java Chip ice cream can help make things go smoother. And for every Journal Java Chip purchase, Gayety’s is donating a portion of the proceeds to The Lansing Journal. It’s a delicious way to support two local businesses.
