Obituary Joan Voll

Joan Antoinette Voll, a former resident of Lansing, IL, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha, Iowa. Joan was born in Chicago on July 29, 1931, to Sigmund “Kelly” and Daisy “Inez” (Box) Kubaszak, and she reminisced fondly of growing up in their “tiny, 3rd-floor walk-up apartment” on 79th Street. Joan graduated from Hirsch High School in 1949.

She married the love of her life, Robert Voll, on May 14, 1951. Bob passed away one month prior to their 60th wedding anniversary. Before settling in Lansing, the newlyweds lived in Panama for a year while Bob served in the US army. While residing in Panama, Joan taught English at the Pan American Institute. She was also employed as an executive secretary for Sears prior to raising her family.

Joan was always an enthusiastic volunteer. In 1977, she helped establish the Meals on Wheels program in Lansing. During her 40 years with the organization, she served in many different capacities, including administrator, buyer, and volunteer coordinator. Her favorite assignment, however, was delivering the meals and chatting with the clients. Joan was also very active in her church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, served on numerous church boards, taught Sunday school, and sang in the church choir.

Joan will be deeply missed by her two sons: Greg (Nancy) of Homewood and Scott (Candy) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her five grandchildren: Zachary, Nicholas, Douglas, Catherine, and Cara; and her two great-grandchildren: Sofia and Miles. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her sister, Betty Jean Horn.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Friday, June 16, at the First United Methodist Church of Lansing, 18420 Burnham Ave., Lansing, Illinois, with Pastor David Price officiating and a luncheon to follow. A visitation will begin at 9:30 AM prior to the service in the church parlor. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Gardens South in Oak Lawn, IL.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Stoney Point Meadows in Cedar Rapids for the loving manner in which they cared for Joan over the past two years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Lansing Meals on Wheels, in care of the First United Methodist Church of Lansing, 18420 Burnham Ave, Lansing, IL. Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care and arrangements of Joan.
