Lansing election results – reported April 4, 2023

LANSING, Ill. (April 4, 2023) – The Cook County Clerk has released unofficial tallies of the April 4, 2023, Municipal Election results. Results came in throughout Tuesday night, with Lansing’s final precincts reporting around 9:30 p.m.

Voter turnout inches up

According to election results on the Cook County Clerk’s website, Lansing’s voter turnout increased slightly overall, inching up to an election night total of 2,146 ballots, higher than 2021’s count of 2,003. The combination of mail-in voting, early voting, Election Day voting, and a slight decrease in the number of registered Lansing voters pushed the turnout percentage from 9% in 2021 to 10% this year.

Election results in contested races

In the Village of Lansing Trustee race, Saad Abbasy and Jerry Zeldenrust, both of the Village Voice Party, were top vote-getters, followed by Maureen Grady-Perovich, sole member of the Lansing First Party. Rob Collins, the third member of the Village Voice Party, fell less than 150 votes short of Grady-Perovich. Abbasy, Zeldenrust, and Grady-Perovich will sit on the Lansing Village Board of Trustees — a position each has held before — as Abbasy and Zeldenrust retain their incumbent seats. Grady-Perovich returns to the Board after a two-year hiatus to succeed Trustee Mike Fish.

In the Sunnybrook District 171 race, Tammara Hill, Timothy Terrell, and Desiree Ambrose earned top votes, edging out Derrick Burks.

In the crowded South Suburban College Trustee race, Sherelene Harris, Anthony Williams, and Terry Wells rose to the top in the race for six-year terms, besting Ronnell Tatum, Tanjnique Miller, Venise Haynes, Vince Lockett, and Kisha McCaskill. In the four-year term race, Kevin Daly beat Max Solomon.

Thornton Township residents narrowly voted against a referendum that would add a tax to fund community mental health facilities and services.
