Association for Wolf Lake Initiative welcomes new director

Jeramie Strickland welcomed as new director at January 25 meeting

WHITING, Ind. (January 30, 2023) – The Association for the Wolf Lake Initiative (AWLI) welcomed a new director, Jeramie Strickland, to its board at its initial meeting of the year on January 25.

Strickland, of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, serves as Director of Outreach for the northern half of Illinois. This includes Wolf Lake and the William W. Powers State Recreation Area.

At the meeting, Dr. Phil Willink was re-elected president; Ken Czulno, vice-president; Dr. Ahmed Lakhani, treasurer; and Richard Chambers, special projects. Dr. Michael Galbreath was elected secretary to replace Jim Buiter.

At the meeting on January 25, board members received reports on AWLI’s annual membership meeting, its winter festival, its Calumet Nature Exchange meeting, and an update on the progress of the documentary film, Wolf Lake Abides. Members also learned of the upcoming Calumet Revisited Forum at 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, via Zoom, featuring Dr. Larry McClellan and his new book, Onward to Chicago: Freedom Seekers and the Underground Railroad in Northeastern Illinois.

AWLI is a bi-state organization and land trust that seeks to protect and enhance the thousands of acres of the Wolf Lake watershed that serves a population base of 3.4 million.
