The gifts of a few make a difference to many

by Melanie Jongsma, Publisher

LANSING, Ill. (October 3, 2021) – One of my jobs as publisher of The Lansing Journal is to ask people for help. It takes a community to run a community newspaper, so I am always looking for ways to invite more members of the community into this enterprise.

Sometimes we need story ideas — and we love receiving your submissions. Sometimes we need advertisers — and we are grateful for the churches, businesses, and organizations that pay us to deliver their message to our readers. Sometimes we need encouragement — and so many of you provide that through cards, notes, comments, and friendly conversations (see the sidebar). Thank you.

Underneath it all, we need financial support. We need to pay our reporters, and keep our website up and running, and send fresh headlines via email each morning. Those basics of reporting, publishing, and delivering news all cost money.

This month 138 individuals and couples helped cover those costs. Some of you joined us for the first time. Some of you increased your giving. Some of you told us you wished you could do more. Thank you. We are grateful for all of you.

Thank you, September supporters

Financial contributions from the 138 people listed below covered the cost of 108 stories this month, written by 11 local journalists and delivered via 30 different emails to more than 3,500 subscribers. Those stories were viewed 70,565 times during the month, by 26,959 different people.

Thank you, September supporters for making all that possible:
