TFS Sports round-up: Boys cross country takes first, Golf wins on ‘jersey day’

As part of The Lansing Journal’s ongoing efforts to increase sports coverage at TF South, we have asked TFS coaches to provide us with information about their matches/games. The Lansing Journal will be posting these scores and summaries multiple times per week in a “TFS Sports round-up.”

LANSING, Ill. (September 22, 2021) — The scores for September 21-22:

September 21

TFS Boys Cross Country

Meet: TFS vs. Hillcrest High School vs. Richards High School

Score: TFS took first place in the three-school match: TFS-24, Hillcrest-35, Richards-did not have a complete team.

TFS’s last home meet of the year at Erfert Park was accompanied by perfect running weather, said coach Fred Seibel. In fact, the majority of TF South runners ran their personal bests on Tuesday: Austin Hewes (Jr)—1st place (19:56 Personal Record), Carlos Cervantes (So)—2nd place—(19:58 PR), Michael Chancey (Jr)—6th place (20:32 PR), Demetrius Thomas (Fr)—7th place (21:58 PR), Ben Gresham (Fr)—8th place (22:00 PR), Rodrigo Cortez (Fr)—10th place (22:17 PR), Kenan Maxey (Fr)—11th place (22:19 PR), Rashad Peeples (Fr)—13th place (22:57), Carson Harris (Fr)—14th place (25:02), Adam Castellanos (Jr)—15th place (25:07 PR), Jayden Scott (Fr)—20th place (27:17), Gavin Cottrill (Jr)—21st place (29:07), Colin Harris (Fr)—26th place (40:17 PR).

Seibel said he was “very pleased” with Tuesday’s results. TFS’ next meet is the Tinley Park Invitational at Midlothian Meadows on Saturday morning. Seibel described the meet as TFS’ “biggest and toughest meet of the year.”

TFS Girls Tennis

Opponent: Oak Forest High School

Score: TFS is bested by Oak Forest 5-0.

Oak Forest blanked TF South Tuesday afternoon in a decisive victory at Oak Forest.

TFS Golf

Opponent: Bremen High School

Score: TFS beats Bremen (214-222)

TF South’s final home match of the season at Centennial Park in Munster was a tight victory for TFS. the squad was led by senior Davey Mosele (51), sophomore Andrew Danehl (52), frosh Ryan Marnell (55), and junior Ethan Modjeski (56). Tuesday’s match fell on “Jersey Day” for TF South.
