Obituary: Sandra J. Zylstra

July 14, 1949 – March 31, 2021

Sandra J. Zylstra, nee Iwema, age 71, of Lansing, IL, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. Beloved wife of Donald Zylstra. Loving mother of Anita (Christopher) Hamilton, Douglas Zylstra, Daniel (Lisa) Zylstra, and Brenda (Michael) Belcher. Cherished grandmother of Maya, Keira, and Brynna Hamilton, and Emily, Caroline, Paul, and Joseph Zylstra. Dear sister of Nancy (Tom) Kerkstra, Robert (late Janis) Iwema, Paula Iwema, and David (Jeanne) Iwema. Dear sister-in-law of David (Claudia) Zylstra, Rita (late Milton) Van Drunen, and John (Diane) Zylstra. Kind aunt of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents James and Hermina Iwema, and her in-laws Arthur and Kathryn Zylstra. Sandra was a Christian school teacher for a combined 15 years at Southwest Christian School and Lansing Christian School. She spent over 40 years as a church organist at Lynwood United Reformed Church, and also gave piano lessons to many students. Sandra was loved by many and will be deeply missed.

Visitation Monday, April 5, 2021, from 3 – 9 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN. Visitation Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 10 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Lynwood United Reformed Church, 1990 Glenwood Dyer Road, Lynwood, IL, with Rev. Nick Alons officiating.
