Now in his 17th season as Marian Catholic’s head basketball coach, Mike Taylor holds a coaching record of 300-194. Taylor is 366-244 in his high school coaching career that includes a few years as the head coach at Hales Franciscan High School in Chicago prior to Marian Catholic. A member of the East Suburban Catholic Conference (ESCC) Hall of Fame, Taylor has led the Spartans to seven IHSA regional titles, three ESCC titles, six 20-victory seasons, and four overall sectional crowns. He led the Spartans to a third-place finish in the IHSA Class 3A state tournament in 2018 and was named the Daily Southtown Head Coach of the Year that same year.
Having worked with Coach Taylor for 25 years, Marian Catholic public address announcer Mike Blais said, “Hands down, the best X’s and O’s coach I’ve been around. When you pair that with his ability to build relationships with his teams, it naturally leads to this success.”
In addition to coaching, Mike Taylor is currently Marian Catholic’s Assistant Athletic Director and teaches Team Sports and Sport & Society Through Literature. In the past, Taylor has taught various social studies and physical education courses as well.
