Municipal Center draped in bunting to honor Jack Hoekstra

LANSING, Ill. (March 21, 2024) – The purple bunting adorning the Lansing Municipal Center is in honor of the life of Jack Albert Hoekstra, a former Lansing Police Lieutenant and Village Trustee.

A release on the Village of Lansing website said the adornment symbolizes, “the profound gratitude and admiration for a dedicated public servant whose commitment has left an enduring legacy of positive change.”

Hoekstra passed away on March 20, 2024.

According to his obituary, Hoekstra attended both Illiana Christian School and TF South, graduating from South in 1965. He and his wife Anne raised their children in Lansing.

Hoekstra started at the Lansing Police Department in 1973, and started the Police Cadet Program there.

The Village release said, “He donned various hats within the department, serving as a compassionate Youth Officer, a hardworking Detective, and earning the endearing moniker of ‘Officer Friendly’ for his warm interactions with young minds in elementary schools.”

Hoekstra retired from LPD as a lieutenant in 1996, and later served as a Village Trustee for six years, according to his obituary.

“Through his selfless service and unwavering dedication, Jack Hoekstra has left an indelible mark on the fabric of the community, shaping it into a better place for generations to come,” said the Village release.
