Things to do in Lansing this week – September 11 edition

LANSING, Ill. (September 10, 2023) – The items listed below are public events compiled from a variety of community sources. They represent a diversity of ways to be involved this week.


Tuesday, September 12

Free blood pressure and glucose screenings

Time: 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.

Location: Lansing Municipal Center, 3141 Ridge Road, Lansing

The Lansing Fire Department offers monthly health checks on the second Tuesday of each month.

Super Smash Bros. tournament

Time: 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Teen Island
2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

This tournament is for 6th-12th graders. The event description reads: “Show us your moves in Smash Ultimate, tournament style. Who will come out on top? Who will win?” Register here.

Junior Gardeners

Time: 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, courtyard
2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

Kids in grades K-5 are invited to learn garden facts and will get to grow their own library garden. Register here.


Wednesday, September 13

Pop-up Pantry

Time: 9:30 a.m.

Location: Mt. Zion UFL Center, 2340 177th Street, Lansing (708-394-3555)

Mt. Zion UFL Center partners with Illinois Partners In Hope to distribute a variety of donated food once or twice a week. These pop-up pantries are open to anyone, and no ID is required.

Crochet & Knitting Group

Time: 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Brick Room
2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

Bring your own supplies and learn some techniques. This is not a library-sponsored group, but it meets in the library’s Brick Room.

Senior VR Exploration

Time: 1 – 2 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Community Room

Mi Casita Bilingual Program

Time: 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Brick Room

Engage your kids in an enriching bilingual experience. Participants will be reading a book in Spanish and English followed by a fun activity. Register here.

Home buying seminar with Signature Realty Services

Time:5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Community Room

This pop-up event will discuss the best practices, guides, and resources for home-buying needs. Refreshments will be served at this event.

Sixteen Candles at Fox Pointe

Time: 6 p.m.

Location: Fox Pointe, 18138 Henry Street, Lansing

Sixteen Candles will continue Fox Pointe’s free Wednesday night concert series. Lauren Dukes will open the evening at 6 p.m., with Sixteen Candles taking the stage at 7:30.


Thursday, September 14

Library on the Go

Time: 4:30 – 6 p.m.

Weather permitting, the library’s book bike will be riding around the community, giving families easy access to books and services.

Human Relations Commission meeting

Time: 6 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Community Room
2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

The Lansing Human Relations Commission holds its meetings on the second Thursday of each month. The commission strives to empower and enrich the community through diversity, awareness, and resources, while encouraging involvement and support.

Trivia at Kasey’s

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

Trivia with Nick At Night Entertainment happens every week on Thursdays. The restaurant opens at 5 p.m. Nick will start the show around 7 p.m.


Friday, September 15

National Hispanic Heritage Month begins

Senior Bingo

Time: 1 – 2 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Community Room
2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

Seniors are invited to play bingo and win “interesting” prizes.

It Happened in Prayer night

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Freedom Church, 2298 Ridge Road in Lansing

As part of the Innovative Prayer Conference coming to Freedom Church on September 15 and 16, a prayer service will take place that is open to the public. More information about the conference can be found here.

Kasey’s Karaoke

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

Karaoke with Joe Sibley takes place every week on Fridays at Kasey’s Banquet Hall.

Friday Night Lights at Fox Pointe

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Fox Pointe, 18138 Henry Street, Lansing

Rescheduled from July 28, the Friday night twin bill will feature Run Forrest Run and Second Hand Soul. Gates open at 6, with the first band taking the stage at 7. Tickets are $10 online or $12 at the door.


Saturday, September 16

Calumet River Creative Writers

Time: 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Community Room, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

Aspiring writers are invited to join a group that inspires creativity through writing.

It Happened in Prayer night

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Freedom Church, 2298 Ridge Road in Lansing

As part of the Innovative Prayer Conference coming to Freedom Church on September 15 and 16, a prayer service will take place that is open to the public. More information about the conference can be found here.

Lansing Out on Pedals

Time: 5 – 9 p.m.

Location: Fox Pointe, 18138 Henry Street, Lansing

An annual event that benefits the Lansing Area Chamber of Commerce’s Family Giving Program, the LOOP ride brings participant bicyclists through roughly 15 miles of Lansing streets, forest preserves, and the apron of the Lansing airport. I’m with Frank at Kasey’s Beer Garden

Time: 7 p.m. (Doors open at 5 p.m.)

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

“I’m With Frank” makes their debut at Kasey’s with an evening performance in the Beer Garden. The show is free to attend. Drinks and food will be available for purchase. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.


Sunday, September 17

Lan-Sing – Music for the Soul

Time: 1–4 p.m.

Location: Fox Pointe, 18138 Henry Street

This event will highlight diversity through music. The event will feature eight acts, and include local food and resource vendors. Learn more
