District 171 Board meeting – 6:30 p.m.

The July 17 meeting of the District 171 School Board begins at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will occur at Heritage Middle School, 19266 Burnham Avenue in Lansing.

    • The mission of Sunnybrook School District 171 is to maximize student achievement by cultivating critical thinking skills, innovative instructional practices and a collaborative school, home, and community partnership.

  5. Any person wishing to address the Board about an item that is on the agenda should do so when that item is up for discussion. Visitors’ statements will be limited to two minutes per person. A total of thirty minutes will be allocated for Visitors’ Statements at the end of the meeting. Items related to personnel issues will be redirected to the appropriate Administrator.

    • To approve the Regular Board of Education meeting minutes of June 26, 2023, July expenses and June payroll in the amount of $2,775,680.51, as presented.

    • Recommended Motion: To approve the employment of Mr. Dontrea Henley, full time day custodian, compensation of $18.00 per hour, as presented.
    • Recommended Motion: To approve the employment of Mr. Ross Whitt, daytime maintenance/cleaner, Heritage Middle School, salary of $13.00 per hour, as presented.
    • Recommended Motion: To approve the employment of Mr. Neelesh Sane, full time Art teacher, Heritage Middle School, salary of $53,450, MA +9, effective August 14, 2023, as presented.
    • Recommended Motion: To approve the employment of Ms. Julie Contant, 5th grade ELAW teacher, salary of $48,930, (this salary is pending contract negotiations for the 2023-2024 school year with any applicable retro pay after negotiations are complete Step 6 of lane BA + 9 of the 2022-2023 school year salary schedule for teachers in the School District, as presented.
    • Recommended Motion: To approve the employment of Ms. Alma Agosto, 2nd grade teacher, Nathan Hale School, salary of $46,555 (this salary is pending contract negotiations for the 2023-2024 school year with any applicable retro pay after negotiations are complete) based on Step 1 of Lane BA +9 of the 2022-2023 school years salary schedule for teachers in the school district, effective August 14, 2023, as presented.
    • Recommended Motion: To approve the employment of Ms. Laura Magonna, as a food service server substitute for the 2023-2024 school year as needed at the rate of $17.00 per hour, as presented.
    • Recommended Motion: To approve the employment of Ms. Casey Hose, 5th grade Math teacher, Heritage Middle School, salary of $46,003, BA Step 1, effective August 14, 2023, pending successful background check results, as presented.
    • Recommended Motion: To approve the Superintendent contract ending at the conclusion of the 2026-2027 school year.

    • Recommended Motion: To approve the abatement quote at Nathan Hale in the amount of $14,625.00, as presented.
    • Recommended Motion: To accept the quote for asbestos abatement at Nathan Hale with M & O Environmental Company in the amount of $28,100, as presented.
    • Recommended Motion: To approve the tenure for Ms. Christina Murray, Nathan Hale School, as presnted.
    • Recommended Motion: To approve the tenure of Ms. Elvira Mendez, Heritage Middle School, as presented.
    • Recommended Motion: To approve the final school calendar for 2022-2023 school year, as presented.

Schedule and Open Meetings Act

The Open Meetings Act requires that “An agenda for each regular meeting shall be posted at the principal office of the public body and at the location where the meeting is to be held at least 48 hours in advance of the holding of the meeting.” District 171 posts agendas and minutes on its website.
