May supporters helped cover a 43% increase in stories by our team of freelance journalists

LANSING, Ill. (June 2, 2023) – From May 1–31 this year, The Lansing Journal published 149 articles, just a few more than our April total (144). Within that total was a 43% increase specifically in local reporting — stories written by actual people who are part of our community. People whose names and faces you see attached to their work. (Visit our Writing Team page to meet them all.)

I’m grateful for this team of local reporters. Not only do they bring a variety of skills to this paper, but also — they care about this community. They believe our little town deserves quality community coverage.

I’m grateful for our local reporters, but I’m also grateful for our local supporters. All the names listed below are people who value the coverage we provide. Their support makes it possible for all of us to have access to local, independent news.

I list all these names each month because I want to publicly thank them for making local reporting possible. And, to be honest, I want to remind people that this kind of support is necessary for a small-town newspaper to survive and thrive.

Thank you, May supporters, for supporting local reporting
