LARC invites community to memorial garden dedication

Information provided by LARC

LANSING, Ill. (May 26, 2023) – LARC, a not-for-profit organization providing services and supports to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, is hosting its Memorial Garden Dedication on Wednesday, June 28 at 1:30 PM. The garden is located at LARC’s Lansing campus at 19043 Wentworth Avenue.

Pastor Kyle Johnson of Our Savior Lutheran Church will offer a reflection and a blessing. The dedication should last about 30 minutes and will be followed by refreshments inside.

The memorial garden was first constructed on June 18, 2022, with volunteers from LARC and the Lansing Garden Club. Volunteer Diane Lund designed the garden to include 34 plants, 18 bushes, and a tree, most of which are native species and will bloom all season long. At the corner of the garden, there is a memorial bench sitting upon a bed of colorful landscape pavers.

In the fall of 2023, LARC offered a program that allowed patrons to purchase one of the 4 x 8 landscape pavers to be named in honorarium, or in memory of someone special. In total, 27 pavers were engraved by D.O.H. Services in South Holland, and they were installed on May 16.

“With a little care and cultivation, plus a little help from Mother Nature, the garden is looking amazing,” says LARC’s Director of Development Jeff Gajewski. “Last year’s plants are thriving, and we’ve even added a few new additions in planters that were donated by Parents & Friends of LARC.”

The garden area is located on the West side of the building, between doors #12 and #13. It is easily accessible from their parking lot and is ADA-accessible.

LARC asks that those interested RSVP by Monday, June 26, by calling 708-474-1540.
