LANSING, Ill. (April 7, 2023) – It was April 14, 2017, when Pastor John Holyer led the first Good Friday Prayer Walk down Ridge Road from the St. Ann Church parking lot to the Trinity Lutheran Church lawn. This Good Friday, April 7, he informed the crowd at the beginning of the walk that this would be his last. Holyer has accepted a call from a church in Maryland, and he and his family will be leaving Lansing this summer.
The Lansing Journal sat down with Pastor Holyer to learn more about the origins of this unique Lansing observance of a sacred day that manages to bring together people of diverse traditions, beliefs, and ages:
