LANSING, Ill. (January 9, 2023) – It was October of 2018 when Park Service Station, at the corner of Torrence Avenue and Thornton-Lansing Road, closed after almost 60 years of pumping gas and fixing cars. The first buyer of the property never seemed to get off the ground, and the business was resold to Scott 356 Inc., which has opened a Sav-a-Stop gas station at the location.
Cyriac Chandy, owner of the new station, appeared before the Planning and Zoning Board on September 28, 2022, and again before the Village Board Committee of the Whole on October 18 to request a special use permit to operate a gas station. The special use was approved on November 1. Chandy was granted approval to open on the condition that he make a handful of cosmetic and landscaping improvements in the coming year.
Significant remodeling was also done to the building before Sav-a-Stop officially opened, transforming the service garage bays into a snack shop.
Referring to the slew of recently-finished and planned developments on Torrence Avenue, Village Trustee Jerry Zeldenrust said during the Committee of the Whole meeting on October 18, “It just goes to the whole look of what Torrence Avenue is becoming as we incorporate these new businesses. And we are just looking forward to visitors to Lansing, residents of Lansing, being able to travel down Torrence Avenue and really have an appreciation for the fresh look of the businesses on Torrence Avenue.”
Sav-a-Stop gas station and snack shop is located at 18025 Torrence Avenue in Lansing, Illinois.
