Sneak peek: Upscale furniture and art boutique Cadou Decor opens Saturday

By Josh Bootsma

LANSING, Ill. (December 13, 2022) – Since coming to America in 1994, Summer Megdadi has always wanted to open her own boutique. The Jordanian mother of four spent her first years in the U.S. raising her kids with her husband and studying engineering. In 2010, she took the next step toward her dream by starting her own company, Cadou Decor, selling her paintings and other art.

This Saturday, after nearly 29 years, Megdadi’s dream will be realized in full as she opens Cadou Decor at 3336 Ridge Road. She’ll cut the ribbon on the boutique nearly a full year after she initially planned to, a result of delays in remodeling and inventory.

Opening in the building once occupied by Card Carousel, Cadou Decor will offer its customers upscale furniture, art, and decor.

“Everything is for sale,” Megdadi said. “I bring much of it from Europe. … I want people to see unique pieces.”

Megdadi painted some of the art herself, and she special-ordered much of the furniture from designer furniture shows, such as one in High Point, North Carolina — the “Home Furnishings Capital of the World,” according to the city’s website.

Cadou Decor is a reflection of Megdadi’s own style, with “French Vintage” influences spread throughout the storefront. “It’s well known that I mix modern with traditional. I like to mix them. I’m not 100% of each,” Megdadi said.

Beyond decor

In addition to home decor, Cadou also has a small inventory of women’s fashion, including outerwear, jewelry, and accessories. Megdadi also offers interior design services, and can offer personalized advice based on a customer’s home and style.

“I’ve had people that went to HomeGoods, and they are overwhelmed. They don’t know what to buy,” she said. “And where do they put it in their home? I can help them, just with a picture. … They aren’t going to get that service at HomeGoods.”

Megdadi offers in-home consultations at $100 per hour and hopes to also eventually host interior design classes at Cadou.

The ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, December 17, will take place at 11 a.m., and Megdadi has invited the Lansing public to attend. Cadou is located at 3336 Ridge Road.
