State reports 21,404 new COVID-19 cases in last week

CHICAGO, Ill. (December 10, 2022) – COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses are continuing to rise across Illinois following the Thanksgiving holiday, with 74 counties rated at an elevated level for COVID-19 by the Centers for Disease Control. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) said that the anticipated post-holiday surge is a reminder for the public to take action to protect themselves and their loved ones during the remainder of the holiday season.
Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 3,906,801 cases, including 35,550 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois since the beginning of the pandemic.
As of Thursday night, IDPH reported 1,582 individuals in Illinois in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 188 patients were in the ICU and 69 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
