LANSING, Ill. (November 22, 2022) – The Lansing Journal will be joining other organizations on Giving Tuesday, November 29, but we are calling it Giving NEWSday. We want to keep giving news to our community, and we depend on community support in order to continue.

Is Giving Tuesday important? Yes. Last year, grateful people like you contributed enough Giving Newsday gifts to cover the cost of 29 locally written articles! And we know there are more stories you want us to be able to tell.

So we’ll be sending a couple of fundraising appeals to explain the need in more detail. If you already know you want to give so we can keep giving news, you don’t have to wait until Giving Newsday! You can click to visit our special Giving NEWSday support page for Early Givers right now:

But what is Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday started in 2012 to encourage generosity. It is always the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, an attempt to offset the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Then what is Giving NEWSday?

The Lansing Journal started Giving NEWSday to give our readers a way to help us keep local news free for everyone. Giving NEWSday contributions help cover the costs shown below. Click the image to visit the special giving page for EARLY givers:

A recent example

Thousands of curious people have seen our article and video round-up of local business updates. People were excited to learn about these new developments — and to know that new care is going into restoring old, empty buildings. The news we published has been shared on social media over 120 times. People are proud of what’s happening in Lansing, and they want other people to know.

That’s the kind of impact you support when you give to The Lansing Journal. Local news. About local businesses. Reported by local journalists. And shared by readers all over the place.

We want to keep doing this. We want to keep Giving NEWS. And we’re asking for your help. That’s what Giving NEWSday is all about.

If you read the local information we provide, but you’ve never contributed, we’re asking for a little help from you — on Giving NEWSday — or right now if you want to give early!

Remember, every dollar you give goes right into reporting local news, publishing it on our website, and delivering it to your email inbox every morning. Help us keep Giving NEWS every day!

What is Giving Tuesday?

P.S. In fact, are you able to sign up as a monthly supporter? That’s our biggest need right now. Monthly gifts provide a dependable base of income, which helps us plan the stories we can cover. We need more of our readers to make that monthly investment — at any level. There’s a checkbox that allows you to choose to give monthly, and you can type in any giving amount that is right for you.

Thank you!
