MUNSTER, Ind. (November 17, 2022) – In an era of online shopping and throwaway fashion, starting a boutique is a risky venture. But Monica Branchik of Katie Rose Boutique found a niche in serving women who were willing to invest in quality pieces and who welcomed thoughtful assistance in looking their best.
“It’s a personalized shopping experience,” says Branchik, recalling the days when that kind of shopping was the hallmark of stores like Marshall Field’s and Carson’s. Branchik and her staff will ask questions about the event a customer is shopping for, the style she feels most comfortable in, the colors she already has in her closet — and then help her choose just the right outfit or accessories.
“We’ll even tell customers to bring their clothes here, so we can find something that goes with what they already own,” she says. “You already have black pants in your closet. I don’t need to sell you another pair of black pants. But bring them in and we’ll find something that works together.”
Success in the details
That kind of attention has been the key to a successful first year for Katie Rose Boutique. Inclusive sizing and included gift wrapping are other thoughtful touches that make a big difference in a busy world.
Buddy the Ambassador also sets Katie Rose apart. A gentle golden retriever, Buddy welcomes guests as they enter the shop, and he has been known to keep children occupied for lengthy periods while moms are shopping.
The store officially marks its one-year anniversary on Small Business Saturday, November 26, but the celebration already began on November 1 with the announcement of a drawing for a luxury gift basket valued at $1,500. The basket is on display behind the register, and entries are automatically awarded for every $100 spent in the store throughout the month of November. A winner will be chosen December 1.
Helping men, too
Though the boutique does not currently sell men’s clothing, Branchik does offer a unique service to men: easy gift shopping. As Katie Rose develops relationships with its female customers, their styles, sizes, and tastes are revealed through their purchase history. When a husband or boyfriend needs the perfect gift, he can come to the shop and ask for knowledgeable, personalized help from any of the staff.
