Half-staff flags: Honoring the memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

United States and Illinois flags at half-staff immediately until sunset on the day of interment.

The Department of Central Management Services has received notice from President Joseph R. Biden Jr. that all person or entities covered by the Illinois Flag Display Act are to fly the flags at half-staff in honor of:

  • The memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

Please lower the United States flags and the State flags at all buildings occupied by your agency’s personnel until:

  • Sunset on the day of interment

  1. Just my opinion.
    Lowering the US flag to half-staff should be reserved only for US mourning and remembrance.
    There are other ways that the president and individuals can show their respect for the queen of England.
    We had a revolution so we could raise our own flag as a free nation. Proud and free. Now the current president has us symbolically taking a knee to the country that was fought against for that liberty.
    The flag seems to be lowered every other day for the sorrows of our own, at least we could keep that honor for our nation.

  2. I could not agree with you more.
    As I read this article I was confused that the President of the United States of America would think to lower all of our flags for another nations leader no matter what country, but especially one that we fought to free ourselves from .
