Obituary: Lawrence "Larry" McCall

Lawrence “Larry” McCall, age 87 of Lansing, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 7, 2022, at home under the care of Hospice of the Calumet Region.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Jean “Jeannie” (Lefler) McCall. Loving father of Stephen McCall and Kelley (Darren) McGrath. Cherished grandfather of Tony, JG, Melissa, Ciara, Makenzie, Shannon, Erin, and Kathleen. Great grandfather of Annie, Chase, and Alma. Lawrence was preceded in death by his loving son Thomas, his parents Grace and JG McCall, his cherished sister Denise Keate, and his brother Robert H McCall. Lawrence is also survived by his sisters and brothers: James Gib McCall, John McCall, Joan Dill, and Kathy Schiff. Loving uncle to many nieces and nephews across the entire country and special niece by marriage, Jennifer Wills, and great niece Brooke.

As a young man, Lawrence served in the Army National Guard. Larry was often called “Lawrence of Lansing” — he served on the Planning and Zoning Board for decades. He was president of Lansing School District #158, a leader in Boy Scouts, perennial Science Fair Judge, PTA president, and long-time member of Lansing Country Club. Lawrence always loved Lansing! He believed strongly that a long life should not be mourned, but be celebrated. An Irish Wake will be held in celebration of his life on Sunday, October 23, at Lynnie Ques at 5 p.m. All friends of Lawrence and the family are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please buy a book for a school in District #158 or donate to the Hospice of the Calumet Region who made his last days so comfortable.
