(Some of them don’t even realize it)

by Melanie Jongsma, Publisher

LANSING, Ill. (July 2, 2022) – If you received our summer print edition, you probably noticed the envelope we included within it. We did that because we always want to make it as easy as possible for our community to support this community newspaper.

About 60 of those envelopes have been returned so far, enclosing checks of varying sizes along with occasional notes of encouragement. Some of the people who returned an envelope were supporting The Lansing Journal for the first time, and we are delighted to have them join us!

But I was a little saddened to find that many of these new June supporters are not receiving our Daily News email. They gave to The Lansing Journal because they liked the articles they read in the summer print issue, but they are missing out on the articles we publish every day.

Those non-email people do not know that in June The Lansing Journal published 140 articles in a wide range of categories:

  • 10 Arts and Entertainment stories, including information about tryouts for a local play, a new book by a local author, the Sunday crosswords, and Jim Siergey’s June nartoon
  • 2 Business and Work articles, including surprising information about The Bunker and a video interview at Fine Tune Auto
  • 11 Education articles, including the new Red Wolves logo, a story about the first graduating class of a new high school in South Holland, agendas for school board meetings, and stories about staff accomplishments in our school districts
  • 4 Lansing Journal Journeys — it’s been fun to have those back again!
  • 11 Local Government articles, including Election Day information and results in addition to the Village Board and Library Board agendas we typically provide
  • 3 Local Voices submissions, addressing a range of topics — FEMA, pizza, and KYNGZ Restaurant
  • 4 News and Views videos, including a helicopter ride and welding at Chicago’s Finest Ironworks
  • 30 obituaries — these were viewed more than 15,000 times, and they provide important information for our community
  • A variety of other stories about our parks, police and fire activity, local sports, and of course, the daily weather posts!

A few of these stories were included in our summer print edition, but most were not. So people who receive only our print issues are missing out on a LOT of news.

I am grateful for their support in response to the print issue, and their names are included in the lists below, but I wish they could see the full impact of their gifts. They are helping to keep our community informed and connected every day.
