LANSING, Ill. (May 26, 2022) – Rashard Crosby of Calumet City has been charged with attempted first degree murder after attacking a 61-year-old man with a machete in the 18300 block of Torrence Avenue on Tuesday. According to a Lansing Police Department press release, the victim said the 25-year-old Crosby allegedly attacked him following an argument regarding Crosby not being allowed to park in an apartment parking lot.

Lansing Police responded to a hit-and-run accident call at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday near an apartment along Torrence, and arrived to find a man with “multiple deep lacerations to his body,” the LPD press release said.

The victim said he had been in an argument with a male offender regarding the apartment parking lot, a disagreement that escalated when Crosby allegedly hit the victim’s vehicle with his own. After the collision, Crosby allegedly attacked the 61-year-old with a machete, said the LPD release.

Less than an hour after the attack, Calumet City Police observed the offending vehicle parked in Calumet City. When approached by an officer, Crosby, who was in his car, fled from the officer with a machete in his hand. After a foot pursuit, Crosby was apprehended and the machete was recovered.

Crosby has been charged with attempted first degree murder. Additional charges are pending. At the Markham Courthouse, he was issued a $1 million D-bond.

Following the incident, the victim was transported to a local hospital and is recovering from his injuries after surgery, according to the LPD release.
