TF South Badminton wins conference again, baseball has perfect week

LANSING, Ill. (May 3, 2022) — Battling weather, TF South sports continued this week, with badminton again winning a conference championship, and baseball notching a handful of big wins. Scores below—

TF United Girls Soccer

April 26

Opponent: Reavis High School

Result: The TFS and TFN combined team lost to Reavis 3-0.

May 2

Opponent: Oak Forest High School

Result: TFU tied Oak Forest 1-1.

Junior Katie Juarez scored the lone goal for the combined team.

TF United Boys Tennis

April 25

Opponent: Reavis High School

Result: The combined TFS and TFN tennis squad (TF United) lost to Reavis 4-1.

Doubles partners Adrian Perez and Carlos Vega notched TFU’s lone victory in the match-up.

April 26

Opponent: Bremen High School

Result: TFU beat Bremen 3-2.

Adrian Sanchez won his singles match, while doubles partners Carlos Vega and Adrian Perez, and Roberto Caballero and Cameron Turner also walked away with victories.

April 29

Opponent: Tinley Park High School

Result: TFU beat Tinley 4-1.

Adrian Sanchez and Javier Alcantar won their singles matches. Partners Adrian Perez and Carlos Vega, as well as Roberto Caballero and Cameron Turner won their doubles matches.

TF United Mens Volleyball

April 25

Opponent: Illiana Christian High School

Result: TFU’s Varsity squad lost 20-25,16-25, 18-25, while the JV team lost 23-25, 23-25.

April 26

Opponent: Reavis High School

Result: TFU’s Varsity squad lost 17-25, 21-25, while the JV team lost 26-24, 20-25.

April 28

Opponent: Richards High School

Result: TFU’s Varsity squad lost 18-25, 17-25, while the JV team won 25-18, 25-22.

May 2

Opponent: Tinley Park High School

Result: TFU’s Varsity squad won 25-20, 25-19, while the JV team won 25-10, 25-14.

May 3

Opponent: Eisenhower High School

Result: TFU’s Varsity squad won 25-21, 25-22. The JV team won 25-13, 25-15.

Adrian Gonzalez had seven kills and three aces. Zabdiel Silva had 12 assists and two aces.

TFS Softball

April 25

Opponent: TF North High School

Result: TF South beat TF North 16-1

Senior Mya Durr went 3-3 in the game with a triple and two runs scored. Senior Laurielle Weddle went 1-2 with two runs scored. Sophomore Sam Popp drew two walks and scored three runs. Sophomore Emily Dominiak threw a complete game, letting up only two hits and notching five strikeouts.

April 26

Opponent: Hillcrest High School

Result: TF South beat Hillcrest 14-0.

Mya Durr went 1-2 in the game with a home run and two runs scored. Emily Dominiak hit a double and scored two runs. Sophomore Jaila Martinez went 3-3 with four RBIs, and threw a complete game, letting up only one hit Senior Grace Greenwald went 2-3 with three RBIs.

April 28

Opponent: Oak Forest High School

Result: TF South lost to Oak Forest 5-2.

Laurielle Weddle went 2-3 with a home run. From the mound, Emily Dominiak tossed a complete game, letting up five hits while notching six strikeouts.

May 2

Opponent: Lemont High School

Result: TF South lost to Lemont 13-3.

Abby Kleidon went 2-2 in the game, with a home run, a double, and three RBIs.

TFS Baseball

April 27 – Two games

Opponent: Lemont High School

Result, Game 1: TFS won 4-3

TFS scored the winning run in the seventh inning of the game, with Khanon Muth earning Player of the Game honors. James Muth, Austin Hewes, Ethan Modjeski, and Hector Galvan put up good pitching numbers in the game.

Result, Game 2: TFS won 5-3

Dylan Modjeski pitched 3.1 inning of relief and let up no runs with three strikeouts. Jayden Clark went 3-3 with a walk and and an RBI. Ethan Modjeski went 2-3 with a run and a stolen base. CJ Gales went 1-2, scoring a run and notching an RBI.

April 29

Opponent: TF North High School

Result, Game 1: TFS won 18-0.

Player of the Game Jacob Urdiales went 2-3 with a double, three RBIs, and a run scored.

May 2

Opponent: TF North High School

Result, Game 1: TFS won 15-0.

Tyler Earmsmuth threw a complete game with six strikeouts.

TFS Badminton

April 28

Tournament: SSC Conference Tournament

Result: TFS Varsity didn’t lose a match during the conference tournament. JV also took home first place.

TFS Girls Track and Field

April 28

Meet: 37th annual Oak Forest Invitational

Top finishers:

  • Aniya Barton took 4th place in the Triple Jump and High Jump
  • ​Jazzy Starkley took 3rd place in both the 100m and 200m
  • Janiya Lucas took 5th place in both the 100m and 200m
  • Sheilleyah Lipscomb took 4th in the 300m hurdles
  • Rashiya Warfield took 6th in the 100m hurdles
  • The 4×400 relay team of Sheilleyah Lipscomb, Camryn Holder, Taylor Poole, and Nyrobi Moore took 6th place.
  • The 4×100 relay team of Taylor Poole, Jazzy Starkley, Laniya Porter, and Janiya Lucas took 2nd and this same group of girls placed 1st in the 4×200 meter relay, running the third-fastest time in school history.

The next meet for the TFS girls is the conference championship meet on May 4.

TFS Boys Track and Field

April 28

Meet: Pete Struck Eagle Classic Track Meet at Sandburg High School

Result: TFS took fourth place

Top finishers:

  • Isaiah Isom took 1st in shot put and 2nd in discus
  • Navonte Arnold place 2nd in the 300m hurdles
  • Ryan Coleman place 3rd in the 100m and 200m
  • Brandon Woods placed 5th in the Triple Jump
  • The 4×200 relay team of Dennis Hoskins, Ryan Coleman, Nazheer Moore, and Jason Jones placed 6th.
  • The 4×400 relay team of Anthony Listenbee, Jaylon Gardner, Navonte Arnold, and Evin Ovie placed 4th.
