TF South Boys and Girls Track each take third, Badminton and Baseball continue to win

LANSING, Ill. (April 24, 2022) — TF South Badminton continued its impressive season this week, as did Baseball. Both Boys and Girls Track took third place in their respective meets this week as well.

TFS Badminton

April 19

Opponent: Oak Lawn High School

Result: TFS Varsity beat Oak Lawn 15-0. The JV and Freshmen teams won as well.

April 20

Opponent: Fremd High School

Result: TFS Varsity lost to Fremd 11-4. The JV and Freshmen teams lost in close matches.

April 21

Opponent: Reavis High School

Result: TFS Varsity beat Reavis 15-0, while the other teams won handily as well.

April 23

Opponent: 12 different schools at the Homewood-Flossmoor invitational

Result: TFS Varsity won their fifth invitational of the year. South’s top doubles team, Carla Martinez and Paige Drewno, improved to 40-3 on the season. The second-top squad, Azul Rodriguez and Val Sandoval are now 38-4.

TF United Boys Tennis

April 18

Opponent: Shepard High School

Result: The combined TFS and TFN tennis squad (TF United) beat Shepard 4-0.

Doubles partners Adrian Sanchez and Javier Alcantar, and Rushi Patel and Cesar Moreno won their matches.

April 21

Opponent: Richards High School

Result: TFU lost to Richards 4-1.

Carlos Vega and Adrian Perez were the only TFU partners to win a match.

TFS Baseball

April 19

Opponent: Tinley Park High School

Result: TFS beat Tinley Park 3-2

South was led by Hector Galvan, who pitches 6 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts. Dylan Modjeski came in for 2/3 of an inning for the save.

April 20

Opponent: Tinley Park High School

Result: TFS beat Tinley Park 7-5

TFS was led by James Muth, who pitched five innings, gave up three hits and one earned run, and struck out five. Jayden Armstrong went 2-2, with three RBIs and a run scored. Ethan Modjeski drew a walk, scored two runs, and had a “huge outfield assist,” according to coach Matt Tiffy.

April 21

Opponent: Oak Lawn High School

Result: TFS beat Oak Lawn 6-4.

On the mound, Caden Podgorski threw a complete game with six strikeouts, letting up four earned runs. On the other side of the ball, Podgorski notched a hit and two runs. Jack Starcevich had a home run in the game and two RBIs. Khanon Gresham went 2-2 with a run scored.

April 23

Opponent: Crete Monee High School

Result: TFS fell to Crete Monee 13-7.

Khanon Gresham went 2-5 for TFS, with an RBI and two stolen bases. Ethan Modjeski went 2-2 with a run and an RBI.

TF United Mens Volleyball

April 20

Opponent: Homewood-Flossmoor High School

Result: TFU’s Varsity squad lost 25-23, 14-25, while the JV team lost 25-20, 25-23, 25-12.

April 21

Opponent: Shepard High School

Result: TFU’s Varsity squad beat Shepard 25-20, 25-23. JV lost 25-19, 19-25, 23-25.

TFS Softball

April 19

Opponent: Tinley Park High School

Result: TFS lost to Tinley Park 20-14.

Senior Mya Durr went 2-4 in the loss, with two runs scored. Emily Dominiak went 2-3 with a double, and Jaila Martinez went 2-3, with three runs scored.

April 20

Opponent: Richards High School

Result: TFS lost to Richards 12-8.

Senior Mya Durr went 4-4, with two home runs. Sophomore Jaila Martinez went 2-3 with a home run and 3 RBIs. Emily Dominiak had five strikeouts in the game.

April 21

Opponent: Bremen High School

Result: TFS lost to Bremen 11-1.

Sophomore Jaila Martinez went 2-3 with two doubles. Lauriell Weddle went 2-3 with an RBI. TFS is now 4-10 on the season, and 2-8 in conference.

TF United Girls Soccer

April 19

Opponent: Bremen High School

Result: The TFS and TFN combined team beat Bremen 7-1.

TFU is now 4-4 on the season.

TFS Girls Track and Field

April 21

Meet: Sandburg Bill O’Donovan Eagle Classic

Result: TFS took third place out of 12 teams.

  • Jasonay Starkley took 2nd place in the 100m Dash and 4th in 200m Dash
  • Aniya Barton took 3rd place in Triple Jump and 4th place in High Jump
  • Sheilliyah Lipscomb took 6th place in the 100m Hurdles and 300m Hurdles
  • Gabriel Arnold took 4th place in the Shot Put
  • The Freshman/Sophomore relay team of Jamirah Lucas, Jayla McCarter, A’Zariah Simmons, and Summer Rice placed 2nd in the 4×100 and 1st in the 4×200
  • The Varsity relay team of Taylor Poole, Jasonay Starkley, Laniya Porter, and Janiya Lucas placed 2nd in the 4×200 and won the 4×100 with the second-fastest time in school history.

Coach Elissa Belli said, “This was the first meet that most of the girls team was back to competing after athletes were recovering from injuries sustained when a car hit their bus on April 5. A few girls still need to be released by their doctors to compete. It was encouraging to be back to nearly full strength, to perform so well and finally have some nice weather to compete in.”

Meet: 37th Annual Rock Island ABC Meet

Result: TFS took third place out of 12 teams.

Top finishers for TFS are below, with their division (A,B, or C) listed after their result:

  • Ryan Coleman – 1st place in the 100m and 200m (A division)
  • Bryce Wolf – 1st place in the 110m hurdles (B) and 300m hurdles (C)
  • Navonte Arnold – 1st place in the 110m hurdles (C)
  • Anthony Listenbee – 1st place in the 300m hurdles (C)
  • Jordan Burton – 1st place Shot Put (B)
  • Karrell Harvest – 1st place Discus (B)
  • Cortez Jones – 1st place Discus (C)
