Oak Glen Basketball caps successful season by taking on Memorial squads

Boys and girls basketball teams at Oak Glen end championship-caliber season by matching up against middle schoolers

LANSING, Ill. (March 28, 2022) – A new district rivalry was born last week, as the Oak Glen fifth grade boys and girls basketball teams took on the basketball squads of Memorial Jr. High.

Both District 158 schools, Oak Glen Elementary and Memorial Jr. High serve students of different ages, and don’t often match up directly. Last week’s specialty games were a result of Oak Glen’s success this season.

Both the boys and girls basketball teams at Oak Glen were champions over their district rivals, Reavis Elementary and Coolidge Elementary.

The fifth-grade Grizzlies were honored at the March 16 District 158 Board meeting and led the board in the Pledge of Allegiance.

“Both of our teams truly played as a team and displayed what it means to be a true Oak Glen Grizzly both on and off the court,” said Michael Earnshaw, principal of Oak Glen Elementary.

To cap off a successful season, and in the absence of a Roundball Classic tournament, both Oak Glen teams faced off against the boys and girls Memorial sixth and seventh grade teams. Though the Oak Glen boys kept the score close in the first half of their game, Memorial ended up winning decisively. In the girls’ game, Memorial raced to an early lead and never looked back.

Oak Glen Elementary School is located at 2101 182nd Street.

Memorial Jr. High School is located at 2721 Ridge Road.
