TFS Badminton achieves perfection in home tournament; Boys track wins first place

LANSING, Ill. (March 23, 2022) — In a busy week for TF South sports, the boys track team won its fourth consecutive first place trophy at the Lemont Indoor Invitational. TFS Badminton also dominated the tournament it hosted, winning all 30 of its matches. More below—

TFS Varsity Badminton

March 19

Opponents: Oak Park, Andrew, Oswego, Plainfield Central, and Bolingbrook.

Result: TFS won first place

Not only did TFS Varsity win first place, the team won all of the 30 matches they played in.

March 22

Opponents: Lincoln Way West, Homewood Flossmoor, and Lyons Township

Result: TFS beat Lincoln Way West 8-0, beat HF 7-1, and beat Lyons 7-1.

TFS Freshman Badminton

March 19

Opponents: TFS faced off against 12 other schools.

Result: TFS won second place.

March 22

Opponents: Lincoln Way West, Homewood Flossmoor, and Lyons Township

Result: TFS beat Homewood Flossmoor 8-0, beat Lincoln Way West 5-3, and beat Lyons 5-3.

TFS Track

Both the boys and girls track teams competed at the Lemont Indoor Invitational meet last week.

Date and opponents: March 19; the boys were one of 11 teams, while the girls were one of 16 teams.

Result: TFS boys won the meet with 99.5 points, while the girls took fourth with 53 points.

This marks the four consecutive competing year that TFS Boys Track has won this invitational. Notable results are below:

TFS Boys

Ryan Coleman: 1st place – 55m dash

Isiah Isom: 1st place – Shot put

Ernest Temple: 1st place – High jump

Joel Macklin, Jaylon Gardner, Anthony Listenbee, Evin Ovie: 1st – 4×400 relay

Nazheer Moore, Ernest Temple, Jamauri McNabb, Jaleel Lewis: 2nd – 4×200 relay

DeShawn Hampton: 3rd – Triple Jump

Davion Howard: 3rd – 55m Hurdles

Anthony Listenbee: 3rd – 400m Dash

TFS Girls

Aniya Barton: 1st – High jump

Jasonay Starkley: 3rd – 55m dash

Rashiya Warfield: 3rd – 55m Hurdles

TFS Softball

Date and opponent: March 21, Marian Catholic High School

Result: TFS was blanked by Marian Catholic 13-0.

Yulissa Macudzinski went 1-2 in the game with a double. Emily Dominiak went 2-2.

TFS Baseball

March 21

Opponent: Romeoville High School

Result: TFS beat Romeoville 11-6.

TF South was pushed to victory by performances by Marquise Sims (2-4 with 2 runs), Khanon Gresham (2-3 with 2 RBI and 2 stolen bases), and Jake Stachelski (3-3 with 2 RBI, and a double.)

Austin Hewes pitched two innings for TFS, gave up 2 hits, 2 runs, 2 stolen bases, 1 walk, and struck out two batters.

March 22

Opponent: Peotone High School

Result: TFS lost to Peotone 6-5.

Top performers int he game were: Khanon Gresham (2-3, BB, SB, 2R), Jack Starcevich (3-3, R, 2RBI, 1BB, 2B), Jayden Armstrong (2-4, 1 RBI, 1R), Dylan Modjeski (2IP, 4K), and Drew Danehl (2.1IP, 2ER, 1K).

Athlete of the Week

The Athlete of the Week is Toules Makhi Gosa-Polk. Out of a strong group of candidates, Gosa-Polk was chosen as this year’s Carol Smith Scholarship winner. The scholarship is given to a four-year TFS athlete in good academic standing that is planning to pursue a degree in math, engineering, or science. Gosa-Polk will be awarded with $1,000.
