TFS Baseball starts season with home run performance; Badminton impresses

LANSING, Ill. (March 18, 2022) — Spring sports are in full swing again at TF South, and after two years of being impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s season promises to be the most normal one since the pandemic started in 2020.

TFS Baseball

Date and opponent: March 16, George Washington High School

Result: TFS beat Washington 10-0.

TF South won by a full Hamilton over George Washington High School on Wednesday, knocking their first game of the season out of the park with a final score of 10-0.

South was led by first basemen Jayden Clark who went 2-3 with a double and four RBI.  Caden Podgorski also had a hit and an RBI. Earmsmuth went 1-3 with a triple and an RBI. On the mound, TFS was led by James Ballard and Drew Danehl who combined for a no hittter.

Date and opponent: March 17, Andrew High School

Result: TFS lost to Andrew 4-2

TF South fell to Andrew in the last inning of the game, letting up two unearned runs to give them the victory.

On the mound, five innings went to Hector Galvan of TFS, who let up two runs, five hits, one walk, and struck out five. James Muth threw two innings, letting up three hits and notching one strikeout.

Many TFS hitters went 1-3 on the day, including Jayden Clark, Caden Podgorski, CJ Gales, Jake Stachelski, and Tyler Earmsmuth. Gales knocked a home run, and Khanon Gresham drew two walks, hit a double, and scored a run.

TFS Badminton

Date and opponents: March 16, Nequa Valley, Geneva, Bolingbrook

Result: TFS beat Bolingbrook 8-0, beat Geneva 8-0, and lost to Nequa Valley 6-2.

Despite the overall loss to Nequa Valley, Coach Bob Tengstrand said the top TFS doubles team beat the top Nequa Valley doubles team, which is ranked in the state. The match’s scores were 21-14, and 21-15, favoring TF South.

The team’s next contest is on Saturday, March 19.

TFS Softball

Date and opponents: March 16, Bolingbrook High School

Result: TFS fell to Bolingbrook 15-0.

After winning their first game of the season, the TFS softball squad was blanked by Bolingbrook on Wednesday. Mya Durr stole walked twice and stole a base during the game, and Abby Kleidon went 1-2 with a double.
