From passion to purpose: Holistic Bodywork & Wellness now open in Lansing

by Karen Abbott-Trimuel

LANSING, Ill. (March 5, 2022) – Marquita Powell, a Lansing resident of seven years, followed her passion, leading to her purpose of helping others through massage therapy at Holistic Bodywork & Wellness.

Powell, a licensed massage therapist of 12 years, transitioned from her career as a speech therapist for almost a decade to pursue her dreams of becoming an entrepreneur. Before her full-fledged pursuit, Powell’s life consisted of balancing both her speech therapy and her passion for massage therapy at the same time. It wasn’t until her 40th birthday quickly approached in January of 2022 that she decided it was the right time to take the leap and follow her dreams fully.

On January 9, 2022, Powell opened Holistic Bodywork & Wellness in Lansing. She offers a host of therapeutic services and techniques, such as various massages, stretching, instrument-assisted soft tissue manipulations, cupping therapy, and kinesiology taping to target muscle pain, tension, and imbalance for optimum athletic performance. Services are by appointment only from 8:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Powell wants the Lansing community to know she’s living her dream and following her passion. “I feel blessed with a gift, and I choose to use it to help others. I decided to open my business in Lansing because it’s my community, and what better place to start than where you reside. Most companies start as small businesses, and it’s through the support of their family, friends, and community that helps them grow,” she said.

Powell has seen a rise in her business due to client recommendations, Lansing residents, and other supporters.

Helping those who need it

“I do this because I want to help people,” Powell said.

As a speech therapist, many of Powell’s clients were postal workers. She became aware that many of her clients suffered constant and chronic pain and knew if she could apply her learnings as a licensed massage therapist, she could assist them in the healing process. Powell knew the only way to help would be to resign from her job and pursue her massage therapy business full time.

Powell’s clients are quickly seeing progress through their sessions, and that is a constant reminder that she made the right choice.

Powell said, “through my intake, I try to get a feel for the person to customize a holistic treatment that works best with the issues they are experiencing. It’s more than just about their physical journey; it’s about their emotional journey as well. Everything is intentional when I set up an appointment with a client, from the aromatherapy, meditative music, oils, etc. No session is ever the same.”

Holistic Body Work & Wellness is located at 3232 Ridge Road in Lansing. Business hours are from 8:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.holisticbodyworkandwellness.com.
