Mae Ruth Boender, nee Eenigenburg, age 94, of Highland, IN, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 12, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Charles H. Boender. Loving mother of Calvin (Marla) Boender, Cynthia (Don) Trykall, and Susan (Joseph) Simmons. Cherished grandmother of Joseph Simmons, Loren Boender, Tristan Simmons, Hannah Simmons, David Trykall, and Caia Trykall; great-grandmother of Mason Simmons. Dear sister of the late Harold (late Alice, late JoAnn) Eenigenburg, the late Nellie (late Mart Ridder, late Herman) Homans, and the late Cornelius (late Winifred, late Martha) Eenigenburg. Preceded in death by her parents John and Jennie Eenigenburg.
Mae was a graduate of Chicago Christian High School. She lived, worked and served her community and church in Lansing, IL, and Munster and Highland, IN. Mae’s early career was as an executive secretary at NIPSCO. She retired from there to raise her family. Mae was an active member of Munster Church. Along with Chuck, they were active supporting the missionaries and pastors of the church. Once the children were grown Mae dedicated herself to Interfaith Bible Study, where she gathered with women of all faiths throughout the community to study the word of God. She also volunteered for many years at Hospice of the Calumet Area. Mae was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
A private family service will be held Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN, with Rev. Jim Hollendoner officiating. Interment Oak Ridge Cemetery – Lansing, IL. Memorial donations may be given to Highland Christian School, Legacy Fund of Munster Church, or Hospice of the Calumet Area.
