Phyllis A. VanderbiltPhyllis A. Vanderbilt, nee Bos, age 90, of Crete, IL went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Robert J. Vanderbilt. Devoted mother of Linda (Richard) Schutt, Debra (John) Poortenga, Nancy (Greg) Carlson, and Karen (Lance) Reinsma. Cherished grandmother of Jennifer Schutt, the late Jonathan Schutt, Bethany (Alden) Van Solkema, Allison (Michael) Oleshko, Joel (Katie) Poortenga, Michael (Rebecca) Poortenga, Maria Poortenga, Ryan (Michaela) Carlson, Sara (Max) Popovich, Lauren (Michael) Potter, Nicole Reinsma, Alex (Hannah) Reinsma, and Adam Reinsma. Great-grandmother of Avery, Emma, and Jackson Oleshko, Grahaam and Brooks Van Solkema, Talia, Micah, Lorena, Caelyn, Silas, Elisha, and Josiah Poortenga, Levi, Evan, and Otto Poortenga, Hayden Carlson, Beau and Liam Popovich. Dear sister of Richard (Connie) Bos, Ardith (late Elmer) Van Sledright, and the late Gordon (late Vesta) Bos. Preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Anne Bos.

Phyllis was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan and attended Calvin College, where she met her future husband, Bob; she graduated from Blodgett Hospital’s School of Nursing in Grand Rapids and worked as nurse periodically. Phyllis had a passion for sharing the gospel and was a Coffee Break Bible study leader for many years. She participated with her husband in the Navigators 2:7 discipleship training program, and always looked for opportunities to share her faith in Jesus. Phyllis volunteered for many years at PASS pregnancy care centers. For fun and exercise, Phyllis loved to line dance, and she enthusiastically led line dancing sessions for many years.

Visitation Saturday, February 19, 2022, from 9 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 12 p.m. at Village Church, 14849 W. 93rd Avenue, Dyer, IN with Rev. Mark Prestriedge officiating. Private interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery – Elwood, IL. Memorial contributions may be given to Providence Life Services (18601 N.
