And now, back to the news

-

Thank you, January supporters

LANSING, Ill. (February 2, 2022) – It’s been a long season of fundraising here at The Lansing Journal (maybe you’ve noticed), and the end of January marks a reprieve from that focus for a while. With this morning’s winter storm, school closings, and other local impacts, it’s a good time to get back to the news!

And I know that our subscribers would rather be reading local news than reading fundraising appeals. Frankly, I would rather be reporting. News is the purpose of this newspaper.

But I also know that if I don’t tend to the business side of things, The Lansing Journal will disappear, and local information for our community will disappear with it.

So I am grateful for readers like you who understand that. I’m grateful for those of you who responded with donations, and I’m grateful for those who couldn’t give right now but thanked us for the work we do. Your financial support and encouragement helps keep The Lansing Journal in business.

When you peruse our list of January sustainers and supporters, you’ll see some new names. Those are all people who joined us specifically to help reach our goal of becoming a healthy newspaper, a newspaper with 10 percent of subscribers giving monthly to sustain the work. We fell shy of the 6.1 percent mark I was hoping for, but we achieved 5.3 percent, which is slightly more than halfway to healthy. Thank you for that milestone.

Monthly sustainers

We are especially grateful for people who are able to commit to a recurring gift of a set amount each month. Those gifts have long-term impact. They allow us to plan with confidence. They demand less administrative involvement. Monthly support gives us the freedom to focus on news. Please join us in thanking these monthly sustainers who gave gifts in January:
