Boys Basketball on four-game winning streak, Dance Team wins award

LANSING, Ill. (January 20, 2022) — Last weekend was a busy one for TF South sports, as the Boys Basketball team competed — successfully — at the MLK Rockford Shootout. The Dance Team also performed on both Saturday and Sunday. Swimming, bowling, and more basketball scores from the week are included below:

Saturday – Monday, January 15 – 17

Boys Basketball

Tournament: 2022 MLK Rockford Shootout

Scores: TFS played two tournament games on Saturday, losing to Batavia 73-61, and beating Harlem 69-44. On Monday, the squad defeated Jefferson 78-49 and beat Guilford 67-60. The team’s 3-1 record in the tournament makes them 6-9 on the season.

Saturday, January 15

Dance Team

Tournament: South Suburban Dance Conference Championship – Blue Division

Result: Third place finish after facing off against Lemont, Oak Forest, Hillcrest, Bremen, and Tinley Park.

The TFS Dance Team went to Evergreen Park on Saturday and — in addition to their third place finish — took home the Sportsmanship Award. All-Conference recipients were Suni Ware, Jordan Burton, and Navonte Arnolds.

Sunday, January 16

Dance Team

Tournament: Maine East High School Dance Competition

Result: First place in the IDTA-AAA Hip Hop Division against Thornton and Elmwood Park. Third place in the IHSA Division against Maine East, Hinsdale South (1), St. Ignatius, Hinsdale South (2), and Thornton.

Madison Brown received the “Rising Stars” Award out of this tournament.

The Dance Team’s next competition is IHSA Sectionals on Saturday, January 22 at Geneva High School.

Tuesday, January 18

Boys Basketball

Opponent: Oak Forest High School

Score: TFS beat Oak Forest 55-50.

TFS’ fourth win in a row came with the help of Xavier Lewis, who scored 14 points, and Dwain Nash, who scored 12. Caleb Newman and Lyonel Hodges each scored 8 points. TFS’ conference record is now 3-2, with a 7-9 record overall.

TFU Swimming

Opponent: Richards High School

Score: TFU Swimming fell to Richards 58-19.

Girls Bowling

Opponent: Hillcrest High School

Score: TFS lost to Hillcrest 1478-1400.

Abby Kleidon on the Varsity squad achieved both high game (199) and high series (388).

Wednesday, January 19

Girls Bowling

Opponent: Bremen High School

Score: TFS beat Bremen 1386-1304.

Abby Kleidon again bowled high game with 162.

Athletes of the Week

The TFS Athletic Department recognized the Boys JV Bowling team for their undefeated season and their SICA Blue Conference Championship. Team members are:

  • Jack Williams — 3rd place in Conference individually
  • Karter Thomas — 4th place in Conference individually
  • Andrew Danehl — 2nd place in Conference individually
  • Reggie Kelsey
  • Tristan Headen — 10th place in Conference individually
