LANSING, Ill. (December 19, 2021) – M Spot Fashions celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting on Friday. The new clothing store will offer a diverse selection of clothing for men.

M Spot Fashions is a new clothing store at 19281 Burnham Avenue which specializes in men’s fashion in sizes small through 6X. The store carries casual wear and urban wear, including coats, pants, shoes, socks, and other apparel.

Michelle Rushing, owner of M Spot Fashions, saw the need for a men’s boutique in an industry dominated by women’s boutiques. Even more so, she wanted to provide clothing that men could look stylish in.

“It’s hard to find men’s clothes in bigger sizes that are fashionable,” said Rushing.

Body positivity

The ‘Body Positivity Movement’ has been advocated by many on social media. The crux of the movement is accepting oneself and others as they are, and not adhering to the often-unrealistic body standards presented by media. This can especially affect teens and young adults, and is something Rushing hopes to fight against.

Kiana Gilliam stopped by the store to find clothing for her son.

“The selection is good, especially for my son’s age category, and there is a little bit for everybody,” says Gilliam.

In the 2020 Iowa State University research paper entitled, “The men’s plus size apparel market: Bigger, but not better”, it’s stated that plus size men are often excluded from the Body Positivity Movement.

In recent years, plus-size fashion for men has gained traction, with advertising at major retailers reflecting the diversity represented in men’s sizing. In 2016, Zach Miko was the first larger model to be featured on Target’s online store.

Clothes for all

Harvey Williams, Lansing resident and customer, was glad to find a local store that sells all sizes.

“M Spot was easy to find, and I had no problem finding my size. From inner wear to outwear, this is a one-stop shop,” says Williams.

Rushing says it feels great to be open and invites the community to shop at her store.

“We want you to come on in, it’s a home away from home. we have all sorts of fashionable clothing, size small through 6X. We want to fit you for all your clothing needs,” says Rushing.
