LANSING, Ill. (November 27, 2021) – The second season of Common Ground in Lansing has seen growth in membership as well as creativity. About 30 of this year’s 80 participants gathered earlier this month to swap stories, experiences, ideas, and encouragement.
One of the ideas that came out of that meeting was for Common Ground to sponsor a holiday tree at Fox Pointe. Common Grounders Brian Hardy and Al Phillips volunteered to cover the $50 sponsorship cost, and Common Grounder Kathy Hardy completed the paperwork. The group chose to meet at noon on Saturday, November 27, to decorate the Common Ground Christmas tree, bringing ornaments reflecting their family traditions or cultural heritage.
The Lansing Journal sponsors Common Ground as part of its mission of Building Community. The program partners people of different cultures and encourages the partners to meet at least monthly to discuss race, religion, politics, family, and other topics that can be divisive unless approached with a willingness to learn.
More information about Common Ground is available in the Common Ground category of articles on this website.
