MUNSTER, Ind. (November 22, 2021) – The town of Munster, Indiana, is planning a “Light the Night” event at Town Hall on Friday, December 3 to celebrate the holiday season, and kick off the town’s holiday lighting competition, which raises money to fund grants for Munster schools.
The free event will include the lighting of the town’s holiday decorations at 5:30 p.m., as well as the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus on a fire truck. Visits with the Claus couple will be available as well. Refreshments will be available for purchase at the event.
Decorating for a cause
The “Light the Night” event is the starting point of a month-long holiday decorating contest that the Munster Education Foundation, Munster Civic Foundation, and Munster Chamber of Commerce have collaborated to create.
“We’re delighted to partner with the Munster Civic Foundation and Munster Chamber of Commerce in creating a fantastic holiday experience that bolsters fundraising for Munster schools,” said Tricia Shelton, President of the Munster Education Foundation.
Last year, the first ever “Merry & Bright Holiday Lights Contest” included 17 decorated houses and raised over $12,000 in grant money for Munster schools, according to a Munster press release. As they did last year, viewers can vote for which house is their favorite by going online and donating $1 per vote.

Munster residents looking to enter their home in the competition must do so by November 27. Registration costs $15 and is available here.
“We’re excited to see the response to Light the Night and this year’s Merry & Bright Holiday Lights Contest, and we look forward to continuing this tradition for families in our community,” Shelton said.
