We Are Lansing plans ‘Thanksgiveaway Dinner’ for November 25

By Josh Bootsma

LANSING, Ill. (November 19, 2021) – Local nonprofit We Are Lansing is hosting a free “Thanksgiveaway Dinner” on Thanksgiving Day to offer a meal to anyone who needs one.

The dinner is free, and open from 5–8 p.m. It will take place at First United Methodist Church in Lansing, located at 18420 Burnham Avenue.

Because food is limited, We Are Lansing is asking interested diners to sign up ahead of time online. The registration form can be accessed here.

During last year’s Thanksgiving season, We Are Lansing was just becoming an official nonprofit, though founder Cam Sanchez had been helping organize events to benefit the community for months. At the time, Sanchez helped organize boxes of food to be delivered to multiple local schools, which in turn gave them to families in need. The generosity was intentionally impersonal in an effort to limit in-person interactions.

This year’s “Thanksgiveaway” will be an in-person way to benefit the local community by giving people a place to gather and share a Thanksgiving meal.

First United Methodist Church is located at 18420 Burnham Avenue.
