Obituary: Lillian Mae Keevers

Lillian Mae KeeversLillian Mae (VanderWall) Keevers, 83, of Dyer, Indiana, formerly of Lansing, Illinois, went home to her Lord and Savior on Friday, October 22, 2021. Lillian was born in Munster, Indiana to the late Peter and Ida VanderWall. Lillian was the beloved wife of the late Matthew Keevers and the loving mother of Jeff (Susan Cappello) Keevers, Kimberly (Scott) Keevers Palmer, and Kevin (Kim) Keevers. She was the proud grandmother of Matthew, Dino, Tommy, Andrew, and Audrey Keevers, and step-grandchildren Carrie, Scott, and Eric Palmer. Lillian was also the dear sister of the late Rose (Peter) Dykstra and the late Dwayne (Lita) VanderWall, and sister-in-law of the late Betty Huizenga, the late Judie Alexander, and Winette Johnson. She was the beloved aunt of Pam (Harry) Gatton and Lisa (Jeff) Lyzenga; Randy and Les Huizenga; Dwayne, Todd, and Scott VanderWall; and Mike, Terry, Todd, and the late Tim Alexander. She was also the cherished great aunt of Stephanie and Harry Gatton, Ciara (Brad) Werblo, and Jake and Regan Lyzenga.

Lillian graduated from Illiana Christian High School. She was a life-long and devoted member of Munster Christian Reformed Church where she served as a Calvinette counselor, was involved in Meals by Munster Church, and enjoyed attending Bible study. She loved her Lord and Savior and never hesitated to share His goodness with others. Lillian was a long-time volunteer at Elim Christian Services/Bethshan Association and Community Hospital. She was a proficient crocheter and was passionate about making scarves for the homeless, afghans and baby blankets for family and friends, and prayer shawls for anyone she learned of who was facing serious health challenges. Lillian most cherished spending time with her family and friends. She loved to laugh and could light up any room with her smile. She never hesitated to offer a kind word of encouragement, to lend a helping hand, or to just sit and hold your hand. Lillian was dearly loved and will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.

A visitation will be held Friday, November 5, 2021, from 1 p.m. until the funeral service at 4 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, Indiana. The service will be officiated by Reverend Jim Holendoner. Interment will be at Skyline Memorial Park Cemetery, Monee, Illinois. For anyone wishing to make a donation in memory of Lillian, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Munster Christian Reformed Church or Bethshan Association.
