LANSING, Ill. (October 21, 2021) – The October 20 District 215 School Board meeting opened as usual with the Pledge of Allegiance, but leading the pledge were four young women new to the Board room. Memorial Junior High eighth graders Cheyanne Patterson, Anissa Coffey, Britzy Guerra, and Yanitzia Luna were introduced by Board President Mary Kelly as members of the National Junior Honor Society.

“They are eighth graders who have demonstrated great leadership and commitment to their school community,” explained Kelly. The girls have been involved in a variety of community-building events at Memorial, including the Memorial Back-to-School Bash, Walk and Bike to School Day, and various cancer awareness programs.

After leading the pledge the girls were asked to pose with the Board while proud parents snapped photos.

“These young ladies exemplify what it means to be a Memorial Junior High Mighty Mustang,” wrote Memorial Principal Dr. Keli Ross. “We’re excited for all the things the future has in store for these amazing students.”

The District 158 School Board meets at 7:00 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at 18300 Greenbay Avenue.

Memorial Junior High School is located at 2721 Ridge Road.
