TFS Sports round-up: Wins for tennis and volleyball

October 5–6, 2021

As part of The Lansing Journal’s ongoing efforts to increase sports coverage at TF South, we have asked TFS coaches to provide us with information about their matches/games. The Lansing Journal will be posting these scores and summaries multiple times per week in a “TFS Sports round-up.”

LANSING, Ill. (October 6, 2021) — The scores for October 5–6:

October 5

TFS Girls Tennis

Opponent: Hillcrest High School

Score: TF South beat Hillcrest 3-2

TF South returned to the victory column Tuesday with victories from QiMora Burts, Godiva Tordjo, and the duo of Vanessa Sanchez and Aliza Olivares. Doubles teams Murphy Barnum and Jessica Mafo, and Sharon Ukugwu and Kayla Howard both played competitive matches in their losses.

TFS Girls Volleyball

Opponent: Oak Lawn High School

Score: TFU fell to Oak Lawn in two sets (25-20, 25-22)

In a close match, Abbey Grafenauer had three aces and 12 assists.

TFS Girls Cross Country

Meet: Oak Forest Triangular

Score: Oak Forest High School came in first with 20 points, Evergreen Park High School came in second with 39, and TFS came in third with 72.

Results for TFS: Alanis Gonzalez—10th place (23:56), Jarena Shell—16th place (25:53 — Personal record), Diana Cardenas—19th place (26:05 — PR), Naitsa Fox—21st place (27:47 — PR), Kailyn Keys—22nd place (28:01 — PR), Dawn Birkenfeld—23rd place (28:02), Bianca Jones—25th place (29:25), Adetutu Sokunbi—30th place (33:37).

TF United Girls Swimming

TF North and South have a combined swim team, called TF United.

Opponent: Homewood Flossmoor High School and Bolingbrook High School

Score: TFU takes second place (58), behind Homewood Flossmoor (146), and ahead of Bolingbrook (42).

TFS Girls Volleyball

Opponent: Bremen High School

Score: TFS defeated Bremen [25-16, 25-14, 25-19]

In a tight match Wednesday, Abbey Grafenauer had four aces and 22 assists. Nyrobi Moore had seven kills while Kyndall Jackson had six. Mya Durr​ notched five digs.​

TF United Girls Swimming

TF North and South have a combined swim team, called TF United.

Opponent: Oak Forest High School

Score: TFU falls to Oak Forest 22-126.
