TFS Sports round-up: Tennis impresses vs Bremen

As part of The Lansing Journal’s ongoing efforts to increase sports coverage at TF South, we have asked TFS coaches to provide us with information about their matches/games. The Lansing Journal will be posting these scores and summaries multiple times per week in a “TFS Sports round-up.”

LANSING, Ill. (September 29, 2021) — The scores for September 28-29:

September 28

TFS Girls Tennis

Opponent: Bremen High School

Score: TF South beat Bremen 4-1

QiMora Burts and Godiva Tordjo both won their singles matches on Tuesday. And pairs Vanessa Sanchez and Aliza Olivares, and Kayla Howard and Sharon Ukagwu won their doubles matches. TFS’ Murphy Barnum and Jessica Mafo went to a third set with their opponents in a tight match, but ultimately lost the battle—TFS’ only loss of the day.

TFS Boys Cross Country

Meet: Race against Eisenhower, Oak Lawn, and Bremen

Results: TFS placed last in the four-school contest.

On a clear and cool Tuesday, TFS raced at Eisenhower on a roughly 2.8-mile course, making time comparisons difficult to other matches. The results for TFS were: Carlos Cervantes (So)—15th place (19:58), Michael Chancey (Jr)—21st place (21:12), Rashad Peeples (Fr)—28th place (22:15), Kenan Maxey (Fr)—30th place (22:17), Carson Harris (Fr)—38th place (23:07), Demetrius Thomas (Fr)—39th place (23:14), Ben Gresham (Fr)—41st (23:35), Rodridgo Cortez (Fr)—43rd place (24:07), Jayden Scott (Fr)—44th place (24:57), Adam Castellanos (Jr)—47th place (25:43), Gavin Cottrill (Jr), 53rd place (28:13), Colin Harris (Fr)—57th place (38:50).

TFS’ next meet is September 30 at the Andrew Frosh/Soph Invitational at the Tinley Park District.
