TFS Sports round-up: Football wins again in Saturday game

September 25-27, 2021

As part of The Lansing Journal’s ongoing efforts to increase sports coverage at TF South, we have asked TFS coaches to provide us with information about their matches/games. The Lansing Journal will be posting these scores and summaries multiple times per week in a “TFS Sports round-up.”

LANSING, Ill. (September 27, 2021) — The scores for September 25-27:

September 25

TFS Football

Opponent: Reavis High School

Score: TF South beat Reavis 33-11

TF South notched another win in Saturday afternoon’s game at Reavis. Senior Jacob Urdiales threw for 126 yards Saturday, including a 59-yard touchdown pass to junior Brandon Woods in the second quarter. Urdiales went 8/13 with one interception.

TFS’s rushing leader was senior Ernest Temple, who tallied 165 of South’s 189 rushing yards. In the first, Temple ran 53 yards for a touchdown. Woods was the receiving leader with 96 yards.

TF South’s next contest is Friday, October 1, when TFS will welcome Oak Forest High School to Padjen Field for this year’s homecoming game.

TFS Boys Cross Country

Meet: Tinley Park Invitational

Results: TFS varsity did not have enough runners to place. JV finished 11th out of 12 schools.

On a pleasant day for running Saturday, TF South met some stiff competition in one of the tougher meets of the year. Varsity scores were: Austin Hewes (Jr)—72nd place (20:48), and Michael Chancey (Jr)—78th place (22:06). JV scores: Carlos Cervantes (So)—47th place (21:17), Rodrigo Cortez (Fr)—59th place (22:30), Rashad Peeples (Fr)—61st (22:40), Kenan Maxey (Fr)—62nd (22:42), Ben Gresham (Fr)—65th (23:04), Carson Harris (Fr)—76th place (25:28), and Demetrius Thomas (Fr)—77th (25:36). TFS runners in the open competition were: Adam Castellanos (Jr)—(25:01—Personal record), Gavin Cottrill (Jr)—(28:34), and Colin Harris (Fr)—(37:33—PR).

TFS’ next meet is September 28 at Eisenhower High School.

TF United Soccer

TF North and South have a combined soccer team, called TF United.

Opponent: Argo High School

Score: TFU falls to Argo 3-1.

Diego Gonzalez scored TFU’s lone goal in the game, assisted by Lexani Gaines. Jesus Puerta had 9 saves in the loss. The team is 5-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
