TFS Sports round-up: TFS hosts Rich Dust Invitational

September 4–6, 2021

As part of The Lansing Journal’s ongoing efforts to increase sports coverage at TF South, we have asked TFS coaches to provide us with information about their matches/games. The Lansing Journal will be posting these scores and summaries multiple times per week in a “TFS Sports round-up.”

LANSING, Ill. (September 6, 2021) — The scores for September 4–6:

Saturday, September 4

TFS Boys Cross Country

Opponents: TFS hosted over 20 teams at this year’s annual Rich Dust Invitational

Score: TFS varsity had only two runners. In the JV category, TFS placed 11th overall.

In a cross country meet, the lowest score wins. The first place runner is awarded one point, second place is awarded two points, and so on.

The Rich Dust Invitational (named after former TFS cross country coach and teacher, and now current D215 board member Rich Dust) kicked off Saturday under cloudy skies and mid-70s weather. TFS hosted the event for 543 total athletes. TFS had two runners compete in the varsity race: Austin Hewes (Jr.)—75th place (20:59 — Personal record) and Michael Chancey (Jr.)—92nd place (23:20).

The TFS JV squad had six runners: Carlos Cervantes (So.)—35th place (20:44 — PR), Rashad Peeples (Fr.)—52nd place (22:35 — PR), Ben Gresham (Fr.)—58th place (23:23 — PR), Rodrigo Cortez (Fr.)—59th place (23:52 — PR), Kenan Maxey (Fr.)—62nd place (23:52 — PR), and Demetrius Thomas (Fr.)—74th place (25:16 — PR).

Girls Cross Country scores were not submitted.
