119 August thank-yous

Their support

by Melanie Jongsma, Publisher

LANSING, Ill. (September 2, 2021) – So many people make it possible for Lansing to have its own newspaper. More than 119 people (some are listed as couples) made contributions in August. Because of their gifts, we published 108 articles during the month, and 74 of those were original posts by our own team of local journalists.

Not only do those 119 supporters fund local news for the people in our immediate community, but they also make it possible for our local news to be discovered by readers around the world. In the month of August more than 23,000 individual people visited The Lansing Journal website and viewed more than 65,000 pages. Certainly, most of those visitors come from Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan, but it’s interesting that our hometown newspaper reached beyond the U.S. to 43 other countries last month.

I am grateful for these 119 people. They give different amounts, for different reasons, on different schedules — but all of them believe that having a community newspaper is important. Thanks to their vision and involvement, we all have access to local news, wherever we are.

Thank you, August supporters

Your notes help too

Many of you include encouraging notes with the gifts you send in, and those are a big help as well. They let us know that you understand there are real people behind the Daily News email you receive each morning, and that you value the work they do. A recent note said:

“Just want to thank you for the sheer amount of work you and your staff go through each week to produce the Journal. Your work is never ending, but you maintain a professional and praiseworthy publication.”

Thank you for partnering with us to make this newspaper possible. Yes, it’s a lot of work, but with help from 119 friends, we are building community together.
