Three Roosters’ Daisy Herrera reminds Lansing: “Shop local”

by Melanie Jongsma

LANSING, Ill. (August 27, 2021) – “I grew up with a corner store,” says Daisy Herrera, manager of Three Roosters Grocery and Produce at 3224 171st Street. That corner store is where her mother sent her every day or two to pick up a few tomatoes or a fresh cut of meat for the family’s next meal.

So when Daisy’s uncle Ernesto Acevedo opened Three Roosters in Lansing 11 years ago, the image of fresh food and community is what they had in mind. The Lansing Journal visited the store this week and spent some time talking with Daisy about business, culture, and pandemic impacts:

  1. I can’t comment about the shortage of torillas as I don’t know, but as someone who is not of hispanic origin, branch out a little and try their “tongue” or “goat” tacos. Before you turn up your nose, give then a try.

  2. all the stores around have mission taco shells. low in carbs, high in fiber.
does 3 roosters have home made quacamole?

    • Eb, Milagro is the brand Daisy referred to in the video. I would not be surprised if they sell homemade guacamole, though it might depend on avocado availability.

  3. I love Three Roosters. We live only a few blocks away and have been going just about every other week for 10 years. Great service, good products.
