Obituary: LaVerne C. Doorn

LaVerne C. DoornLaVerne C. Doorn, nee Santefort, age 95, of Crete, IL passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021. She is survived by her loving children, Fred (Grace) Doorn, Terri (Don) Spence, Karla (late Chuck) Zandstra, Shelly (Kent) DeGraff and her sister Pearl (late Robert) Kraay. Cherished grandmother of Sheila, Russell, Jeremie, Steve, Colette, Kari, Jana, Kristen, Abbey, Chuck, Jodi, Holly, Dana, Alyssa, Dale, Kelly, and Erin. Great-grandmother of 34. Favorite aunt of many nieces and nephews. LaVerne is preceded in death by her husband Edward, daughter Sharon Brackett, son-in-law Chuck Zandstra, parents Teunis and Henrietta (nee Tysee) Santefort. Brothers, Lucas, Albert, William, Harold, Ralph, and infant twin Raymond Santefort. Sisters, Janette Bult, Lorraine Veit, and Dorothy Blom.

LaVerne was faithful in her church attendance and always spent each morning with her Savior reading and studying His word. A loving wife to her husband, Edward, for 34 years. She cherished and loved the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren that shared in the time she was blessed with while on this earth. She has many wonderful friends still here and many that she is joining in heaven. She was a devout Cubs fan, loved to watch golf, and an avid reader. We will all miss her dearly. Special thanks to our mom’s caregiver, Marybeth Ottmor, for her care and devotion over the past year.

Visitation Wednesday, August 25, 2021, from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN, with Rev. Steve Miller officiating.
