Ribbon-cutting ceremony kicks off grand opening of S.L Wine Bar

LANSING, Ill. (August 21, 2021) – Family, friends, and Lansing community leaders joined Christopher and Deja Cain for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the S.L Wine Bar grand opening at 3224 Ridge Road in Lansing.

Excited to start

For the Cains, Friday’s ceremonial ribbon-cutting symbolized the celebration of hard work, a labor of love, and a new beginning as they opened their doors for business. Before the ribbon-cutting, waitresses passed hors d’oeuvres, and the bartenders served $5 wine specials in honor of the special event. The owners were joined by Lansing Mayor Patty Eidam, who expressed excitement for the couple.

“I am so excited for them because they took our feedback, did the research, and put in the work. They were impressive from the very beginning,” she said.

Design and diversity

Upon entering S.L Wine Bar, visitors will notice the bar’s sleek design, the boutique atmosphere, and the staff’s friendly faces. The space is well designed and inviting. Patrons have a choice of sitting in a sofa area by the fireplace or at tables.

S.L Wine Bar is named after Deja Cain’s grandmother, who tragically died when Deja was only two years old. The experience was tragic for the entire family, especially Deja’s mother. Even though Deja was only two at the time, she said, “I feel the presence of my grandmother’s spirit often. I made a promise to myself in high school that I would name my business after my grandmother. That was before I ever knew the dream of owning a business would come true.”

The Cains want the Lansing community to know that diversity is essential as they grow their business. They appreciate the Lansing Area Chamber of Commerce and the community for embracing them and their business.

“We’re not only bringing diversity to the Lansing community, but we’re also bringing safe and sexy. I’m excited about being another option instead of the only option,” Christopher Cain said. “Bars have a bad stigma on them, and we’re here to change that by being a safe place.”

The couple emphasized that building a business where people can be comfortable, feel safe, and have a good time is very important.

The Cains aren’t new to entrepreneurship, as a family of entrepreneurs surrounds them. Their aunt Valerie Warnell is the owner of Nothing Bundt Cakes in Schererville, Indiana. Their mother Varine Hampton is a real estate broker.

S.L Wine Bar offers a wide selection of wines, including the Sweet Red Blend, a smooth, refreshing wine with a depth of flavor. Other liquor is available at the location as well.

Business hours are Wednesday and Thursday, 4 p.m. – 11 a.m.; Friday and Saturday, 4 p.m. – midnight; and Sunday 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

S.L Wine Bar is located at 3224 Ridge Road in Lansing, Illinois.
