LANSING, Ill. (July 29, 2021) — Lighthouse Community Church will serve as the location for a food drive on Saturday, July 31 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Organized by Lansing teen Korey Ziemkowski, the food drive is not one for recipients, but for donors and volunteers.

The drive will stock Lansing’s soon-to-be newest food pantry, located at Lighthouse Community Church at 17500 Lighthouse Lane. The food pantry will be the under the supervision of Girl In Lansing — a nonprofit founded by Ziemkowski. Ziemkowski is also responsible for starting multiple micro pantries in Lansing.

“With enough donations, we are hoping to have the pantry opened for any and all residents within the next two to three weeks,” she said.

Food donors will be asked to park in the church parking lot where volunteers will accept the donors’ food and sort the items.

Any non-perishable items will be accepted, including cereal, canned fruits, snack items, rice, canned veggies, chips, fruit snacks, pasta, pasta sauces, and others. Non-perishables will not be accepted at this time as well as any expired or opened food.

“GIL wants to not only help the struggling families in Lansing and surrounding areas, but also build relationships between volunteers of all ages and church members,” Ziemkowski said.

Lighthouse Community Church is located at 17500 Lighthouse Lane, Lansing, IL.
