LANSING, Ill. (July 22, 2021) – Lansing resident Rebecca Garcia is the newest member of the Lansing Human Relations Commission, after the The Lansing Village Board voted to approve her at its Tuesday evening meeting.
Garcia works at South Suburban College in South Holland as the college’s Manager of Public Relations and Resource Development.
Mayor Patty Eidam, who appointed Garcia, invited her to speak after she was approved.
“I’m definitely very humbled by this. I look forward to the opportunity to advocate for my fellow neighbors,” Garcia said.
Though the Lansing Human Relations Commission did not meet for a few consecutive months, the group held its first meeting back on Thursday, July 15 at the Lansing Public Library. The HRC typically meets on the third Thursday of the month.
The group has experienced significant turnover since its first meeting in late 2018. Cam Sanchez was the most recent commissioner to resign, parting ways in early May after being appointed to the commission in September 2020.
Six seats are now filled on the HRC, leaving three spots still vacant. Individuals interested in applying for the commission are invited to apply on the Village of Lansing’s website.
